Numerology Basics

Numerology is an exciting and mysterious forecasting number system. Although such schools of numerology like horoscope numerology require a great deal of learning, you do not have to be a numerology star reader to enjoy this metaphysics science. Develop a personality analysis in which the numbers tell you about your personality and your lucky numbers. Use this technique for future prediction and determining the numerology compatibility of future loved ones. Or use numerology to find the perfect numbers to use as your powerball numbers.

What is Numerology?
While some types of personality typing and forecasting methods use mysterious symbols unfamiliar to most people, numbers are a part of our daily lives. Numerology is the study of the metaphysical meaning of numbers. By applying the principles of numerology - and using only the name and birth date as the basic data - you can decipher a person's personality, strengths and abilities, personal challenges, inner needs, emotional chemistry, and ways of interacting with others.

Almost all cultures throughout history have developed their own forms of numerology. It is a technique that has been handed down over the centuries, refined by continuous observation. Perhaps as a testament to their basic truths, each system had parallels in their interpretations that is hard to explain away as coincidence. The formal study of numerology can be linked to the work of the philosopher Pythagoras, who developed many of the basic theorems that form the foundation of modern mathematics. Pythagoras established the world's first co-educational university for esoteric studies in Greece in 532 BC.

The modern phase of numerology began at the turn of the twentieth century when an American woman, L. Dow Balliet, and others during that time published books on the subject. In light of more research on the subject, interest in numerology has grown over the last fifty years.

How Numbers Influence Our Life

The basic calculations used in numerology are performed by simple addition. All numbers are reduced to the single digits 1 through 9 except the special master numbers 11 and 22 (some systems include 33). For example, the number 12 is reduced by adding 1 + 2 to get 3. Similarly, the number 1953 can be reduced by adding 1 + 9 + 5 + 3 to get 18. The 18 is then further reduced by adding 1 + 8 to get 9. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 11 and 22 represent the major aspects of one's personality.

Letters in a person's name are converted to numbers and then added together and reduced where applicable. The following list shows the numbers assigned to all 26 letters in the English alphabet, and the personality attributes ascribed to them:
